How to Control Your Career for Life: Helpful Techniques for Getting, Keeping, and Changing Employment Opportunities

How to Control Your Career

Welcome to my website!

I'm Don Ford, and I want to help you control your career.

There are two things you must do to control your career.

1. Get a job and keep your job using your skills and abilities working in a company or organization.

My book is as good as any to help you do this. Forgive me for boasting but as they say "if you can't cheer for the home team who are you going to cheer for?"

You can learn more about my book in the section called "About my Book."

2. Start a home-based business. It is like an insurance policy, you never know when you will need it but when you do it is there.

Look at the section "Home-based Business" for some excellent programs.

You are probably saying "Who is this guy?" Let me introduce myself.

I have worked as a dishwasher, cook, camp counsellor and director, college instructor, college administrator at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario and seminar leader.

I started the Continuing Education Division and the School of Tourism at Georgian College.

I also helped start a church in Barrie.

I tried my hand as selling but very few people bought anything so I decided to take a pass on a selling career.

Now I am working on developing this website, stock photography and travel writing. My wife and I like to travel and the photography and travel writing pays for our expensive habit. We live and travel on our boat in the summer.

I have just been accepted by Dreamstime and iStock. These are two of the top microstock photo agencies. This is a start in my photography business.

My professional activities included chair of the Education Committee, Tourism Industry Association of Canada Board, chair of the Personnel Committee of the Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship Board of Canada, chair of the South Central  Ontario Council of TVOntario and chair of the Huronia Symphony Board.

I am a graduate of the University of Toronto and the University of Calgary.

I live with my wife, Frances, in Elmvale, Ontario, Canada. We have a large blended family of 31, ages ranging from 3 to 58 years old.

I don't pretend to know everything so I plan to keep updating this website based on my research and conversations with other people. This will help you move on with your career.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Please tell your friends about my site; they will find it helpful and lucrative.

I wish you the very best as you seek to use your many skills and abilities in the world of work.
